On February 25, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 3:32
p.m. for two lost hikers on the Konahuanui Trail in Nuuanu and responded with 5 units
staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 3:43 p.m. and secured a
landing zone nearby in preparation for a search and rescue operation by air.
It was reported that two male hikers had been hiking for three hours and could not make
their way back down the trail. Rescue personnel were able to hike up the trail and locate
the two men at 5:15 p.m. Both men reported no injuries and did not need medical
attention. Rescue personnel and both hikers walked down the trail to a clearing where
Air 1 was able to safely airlift them to a nearby landing zone at 9:15 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
