HIKER RESCUED ON DIAMOND HEAD CRATER TRAIL IN KAHALA

On March 25, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 12:07 p.m. for a sick hiker on the Diamond Head Crater Trail in Kahala and responded with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 12:13 p.m., established command and ascended the trail on foot. A second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.

It was reported that a female in her 70s became ill while hiking and was unable to descend the trail on her own. HFD personnel arrived at the hiker’s location at 12:24 p.m., conducted a medical assessment, and provided basic life support. The hiker was then safely transported via Air 2 to the landing zone where medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 12:45 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
