HIKER RESCUED ON DIAMOND HEAD CRATER TRAIL IN KAHALA

On April 15, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:54 a.m. for a sick hiker on the Diamond Head Crater Trail in Kahala and responded with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 11:01 a.m., established command and ascended the trail on foot. A second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.

It was reported that a male in his 50s became ill while hiking and was unable to descend the trail on his own. Personnel arrived at the hiker’s location at 11:13 a.m., where they conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support. The hiker was then safely transported via Air 1 to the landing zone where medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 11:27 a.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
