RESIDENTIAL BUILDING FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN AIEA

On April 28, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 2:04 a.m. for a building fire near Center Drive and Tarawa Drive in Aiea and responded with 9 units staffed with approximately 34 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 2:10 a.m. to find an abandoned, two-story residential structure fully involved in fire.

Fire fighters secured a water supply and initiated a defensive fire attack from outside of the building with hose lines equipped with large-diameter nozzles. Because of the intensity of the fire and condition of the structure, the second floor of the building lost structural integrity and collapsed at 2:18 a.m. The exterior fire attack continued resulting in the fire being brought under control at 2:38 a.m. and fully contained at 5:18 a.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.

Since the structure resides on land governed by the Federal government, the Federal Fire Department will conduct an investigation of this incident.
