CAUSE OF COMMERCIAL BOAT FIRE AT PIER 36 WAS ACCIDENTAL

UPDATE: The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) Investigator has classified the cause of the boat fire that occurred on April 26, 2024 near 1005 North Nimitz Highway at Pier 36 as accidental. The area of origin was the port side fuel tank. The ignition source was nearby welding equipment that ignited the diesel vapors resulting in a fire explosion that injured five people on board the vessel. The damage estimate is $240,000 to the property and $10,000 to the contents.
