LOST HIKER RESCUED OFF OF MOANALUA VALLEY TRAIL IN MOANALUA

On May 9, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 1:08 p.m. for a lost hiker off of the Moanalua Valley Trail in Moanalua and responded with 7 units staffed with 18 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 1:24 p.m. and established command. The second-arriving unit secured a landing zone to prepare for air operations.

It was reported that a 40-year-old uninjured male was hiking for an undetermined amount of time and was unable to descend the trail on his own. Air 1 made visual contact and inserted rescue personnel to the hiker’s side at 1:47 p.m. After performing a medical assessment and confirming that he had no injuries, the hiker was packaged and airlifted safely to the nearby landing zone at 1:53 p.m where he declined medical attention.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
