On May 27, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 1:55 p.m. for four lost hikers on the Koloa Gulch Trail in Hauula and responded with 6 units staffed with 15 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 2:03 p.m., established command and gathered information. Personnel then relocated to a nearby area where a landing zone was secured in preparation for Air 1 arrival.
It was reported that four hikers had become disoriented and were unable to descend the trail on their own. Rescue personnel were inserted near the hiker’s location at 2:36 p.m., where they conducted a medical assessment and confirmed that the hikers were not injured. Rescue personnel and one hiker were then safely airlifted via Air 1 to the landing zone at approximately 2:55 p.m. The other three hikers refused assistance and hiked out on their own.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
