On June 2, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 8:03 p.m. and responded to a report of a missing hiker near the Makapuu Lighthouse Trail in Hawaii Kai with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 8:19p.m., established command and ascended the trail to begin a search by land. A second unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for a search by air.

It was reported that a 17-year-old male was missing with his last known location on the Makapuu Lighthouse Trail. HFD personnel searched via air and land, working in conjunction with the Honolulu Police Department. The search was suspended at 11:10 p.m. and will resume at 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
