HIKER RESCUED ON DIAMOND HEAD CRATER TRAIL IN KAHALA

On June 4, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:51 p.m. and responded to a sick hiker on the Diamond Head Crater Trail in Kahala with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 4:59 p.m. and established command. The second-arriving unit ascended the trail on foot.

It was reported that an 83-year-old male with a pre existing injury was hiking by himself when he became ill and was unable to descend the trail on his own. HFD personnel arrived at the hiker’s location at 5:09 p.m. where they conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support. The hiker was then safely transported via Air 1 to the landing zone where medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 5:26 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
