HIKER RESCUED FROM EHUKAI PILLBOX TRAIL

On June 10, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 7:27 a.m. and responded to a report of an injured hiker on the Ehukai Pillbox Trail in the Sunset area with 5 units staffed with approximately 13 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 7:40 a.m. Two fire fighters ascended the trail on foot while the remainder of the crew set up a landing zone for helicopter operations.

It was reported that a 47-year-old female was injured in a fall near the pillbox. HFD personnel on foot made it to the hiker at 7:55 a.m. and, after completing a medical assessment, it was decided that the patient would be flown out via Air 1. Air 1 lowered an HFD rescue person with airlift gear onto the trail and the hiker was prepared for extraction. The hiker was transported to the landing zone at Sunset Beach Elementary School where medical care was transferred to EMS at 8:21 a.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
