HIKER RESCUED FROM THE PUU O HULU TRAIL IN MAILI

On June 14, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 1:25 p.m. and responded to a sick hiker on the Puu o Hulu Trail in Maili with 5 units staffed with 13 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 1:34 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot. The second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone in preparation for air operations.

It was reported that a male in his 50s became ill and was unable to descend the trail on his own. HFD personnel arrived at the hikers’ location where they conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support. The hiker was, then, safely airlifted to the nearby landing zone where medical care was transferred at 2:08 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
