INJURED HIKER RESCUED FROM THE PUU KALENA TRAIL IN WAHIAWA

On June 29, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:01 a.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Puu Kalena Trail in Wahiawa with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 10:20 a.m. and established command. The second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone in preparation for air operations. The Federal Fire Department also responded with three units which included an ambulance.

It was reported that a male hiker fell 100 feet, sustained an injury and was stuck in a precarious location on the side of a cliff. Air 1 inserted rescue personnel to the hiker’s location at 10:57 a.m. where they conducted a medical assessment and performed basic life support treatment. The hiker was, then, safely airlifted to the nearby landing zone where medical care was transferred to the Federal Fire Department at 11:38 a.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
