INJURED HIKER RESCUED FROM MAUNAWIWLI FALLS TRAIL IN MAUNAWILI

On July 1, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 6:41 p.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Maunawili Falls Trail in Maunawili with 6 units staffed with 18 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 6:54 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot to begin a ground search. An additional unit secured a landing zone nearby to prepare for air operations.

It was reported that a 32-year-old male was hiking with three others, sustained an injury, and could not continue on his own. Rescuers on foot located and arrive at his side at 7:03 p.m. A medical assessment was performed and basic life support treatment was administered. He was then secured inside a rescue basket and moved to an open area for extraction. Air 1 safely airlifted him to the nearby landing
zone where his medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 7:43 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
