INJURED HIKER RESCUED FROM DIAMOND HEAD CRATER TRAIL IN KAHALA

On July 21, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 12:41 p.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Diamond Head Crater Trail in Kahala with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 12:49 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot to begin the ground search. Additional units secured a landing zone nearby in preparation for a search and rescue operation by air.

It was reported that a 67-year-old male was hiking with others, sustained a medical condition, and could not continue on his own. Rescue personnel were able to locate and arrive at his side at 1:04 p.m. A medical assessment was performed and basic life support treatment was administered. He was then packaged into a rescue basket and carried to the helipad near the top of the trail where he was loaded into the aircraft. Air 1 transported him safely to the nearby landing zone where his medical care was
transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 1:15 p.m.
