RESIDENTIAL BUILDING FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN AIEA

On July 21, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 3:21 a.m. and responded to a building fire near 98-873 Hapuu street with nine units staffed with approximately 34 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 3:28 a.m. to find smoke and flames fully engulfing a single-story single family home.

Fire fighters quickly secured multiple water supplies and commenced a defensive fire attack with multiple engine mounted master streams and hand lines simultaneously addressing all sides of the structure to protect adjacent properties. A primary and secondary search of the home was completed to confirm no occupants were inside the structure. The fire was brought under control at 4:15 a.m. and fully extinguished at 4:54 a.m. The American Red Cross of Hawaii was contacted to assist with the displacement
of six people ranging from ages 14 to 79. All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause and to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
