CAUSE OF RESIDENTIAL BUILDING FIRE IN PUNALUU WAS ACCIDENTAL

UPDATE: The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) Investigator has classified the cause of the residential home fire that occurred on July 21, 2024 near 53-370 Kamehameha Highway in Punaluu as accidental. The area of origin was the living room on the north side of the unit supplying medical grade oxygen to a resident. The ignition source was a portable butane stove that ignited the oxygen rich environment resulting in one occupant needing to be treated for smoke inhalation at a nearby hospital. The damage estimate is $451,000 to the property and $28,000 to the contents.
