DISABLED BOAT OFFSHORE OF KAENA POINT TOWED TO SAFETY

On July 29, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a call from the U.S. Coast Guard at 11:05 a.m. and responded to a boater in distress offshore of Kaena Point with 5 units with 13 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 11:26 a.m. to investigate.

It was reported that a 25-foot boat was disabled one-half mile offshore of the Mokuleia side of Kaena Point. Two rescue personnel were picked up by Air 1 on the way to the scene while the rescue boat and remaining personnel continued to Haleiwa Boat Harbor. Air 1 inserted the two rescue personnel to the disabled vessel’s location where they confirmed one soul was onboard and uninjured. The rescue boat then towed the disabled vessel and safely transported the boater to Haleiwa Boat Harbor.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.
