SICK HIKER RESCUED FROM OHANA TRAIL IN OLOMANA

On July 30, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:28 p.m. and responded to a sick hiker on the Ohana Trail in Olomana with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 4:43 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot. Additional units secured a landing zone nearby in preparation for a search and rescue operation by air.

It was reported that an 85-year-old male had been hiking for over three hours, began feeling sick and could not continue on his own. Rescuers were able to locate and arrive at his side at 5:12 p.m. A medical assessment was performed and basic life support treatment was administered. He was then packaged into a rescue basket and moved to an open area for extraction. Air 1 safely airlifted him to the nearby landing zone where his medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 5:51 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
