HIKER RESCUED ON WAIMANO FALLS TRAIL IN PEARL CITY

On August 6, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 5:35 p.m. for a sick hiker on the Waimano Falls Trail in Pearl City and responded with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived at 5:49 p.m. and proceeded to the trailhead to prepare for a search on foot. A second unit secured a landing zone nearby so personnel could prepare for a search and rescue operation by air.

It was reported that a female in her 20s was hiking with three others, began feeling ill and could not continue on her own. Rescuers were inserted to the hikers location by Air 1 and arrived at her side at 6:14 p.m. where they conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support. The hiker was packaged and airlifted safely to the landing zone where medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 6:38 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
