HIKER RESCUED FROM THE KULIOUOU TRAIL IN AINA HAINA

On September 1, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 3:54 p.m. and responded to a hiker on the Kuliouou Trail in Aina Haina with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 4:09 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot to begin the ground search. Additional units secured a landing zone at the Kuliouou Neighborhood Park in preparation for an air operation.

It was reported that a male hiker in his teens, who had been hiking for approximately two hours, became injured and was unable to descend the trail on his own. Rescue personnel were inserted at his location at 4:32 p.m., where a medical assessment was completed. He was then airlifted safely to the nearby landing zone where medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 4:59 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
