On October 7, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:17 a.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Koko Head Crater Trail in Hawaii Kai with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 10:25 a.m., established command and ascended the trail on foot. The second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone in preparation for air operations.
It was reported that a male in his 60s fell, sustained an injury and was unable to descend the trail on his own. HFD personnel arrived at the hiker’s location at 10:41 a.m. where they conducted a medical assessment and performed basic life support treatment. The hiker was, then, safely airlifted to the nearby landing zone where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 11:29 a.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
