STORE IN MCCULLY EVACUATED DUE TO A POSSIBLE HAZARDOUS MATERIALSITUATION

On October 14, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:20 p.m. regarding a possible hazardous material situation at 2220 South King Street in McCully. HFD responded with three units staffed by 11 personnel. The first unit arrived on the scene at 4:23 p.m.

Store management reported that patrons were experiencing various minor symptoms of irritation, which prompted them to evacuate the building as a safety precaution prior to HFD’s arrival.

Upon arrival, Hazmat personnel conducted air and trace sampling, with results coming back negative for hazardous materials. Several individuals experienced minor symptoms, while one required medical treatment from Emergency Medical Services. HFD personnel conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support until care was transferred to EMS at 4:46 p.m. Custody of the store was returned to management shortly thereafter at 5:17 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for, with no injuries reported.
