HFD RESPONDS TO CHEMICAL SPILL IN WAIALAE

On November 11, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 12:52 p.m. and responded to a chemical spill at 4210 Waialae Avenue in Waialae. The first unit arrived on scene at 12:59 p.m., established command and began to investigate.

Occupants reported throat irritation when near the substance. As a precaution, the retail space was evacuated and a Hazardous Materials Unit was requested to assist in the investigation. A total of 3 HFD units, including a Hazardous Materials team, staffed with 11 personnel responded to this incident. Upon arrival, Hazardous Materials crews began to test the substance as well as air quality. Once the air quality was clear and the substance cleaned up, shoppers were allowed back into the retail space at approximately 3:30 p.m.

No occupants required medical attention. All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
