On November 10, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:04 p.m. and responded to stranded hikers on the Ka’au Crater Trail in Kaimuki with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 4:12 p.m. and proceeded up the trail on foot.
It was reported that a group of five male hikers in their teens and 20s were hiking for approximately three hours when one of them slipped off the trail and was unable to make his way back onto the trail. HFD rescue personnel were inserted to the hiker’s location at 4:55 p.m. where they conducted a medical assessment to confirm there were no injuries. All hikers were safely transported via Air 1 to the landing zone with the last hiker arriving at 6:15 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
