On November 19, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 6:31 p.m. for an injured hiker near the Sunset Pillbox Trail in Sunset and responded with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 6:40 p.m. and sent personnel up the trail on foot.
It was reported that a hiker sustained an injury on his way down from the Sunset Pillbox Trail and was unable to descend the rest of the trail on their own. HFD personnel arrived at the hiker’s location at 7:20 p.m. where they conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support. The hiker was then safely transported via Air 1 to the landing zone where medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 7:55 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
