On November 21, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 9:35 a.m. for an injured hiker on the Maili Pillbox Trail in Maili and responded with 7 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 9:45 a.m. and sent personnel up the trail on foot.
It was reported that a female in her 50s suffered an injury and was unable to descend the trailhead on her own. HFD personnel arrived at the hiker’s location at 10:01 a.m., conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support. Air 1 then inserted rescue personnel to the hiker’s location where they prepared her for an airlift operation. The hiker was transported via Air 1 to the landing zone and medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 10:15 a.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
