OVERTURNED BOAT OFFSHORE OF WAIKIKI TOWED TO SAFETY

On December 11, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a call at 4:44 p.m. and responded to a boater in distress offshore of Waikiki with 6 units with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 4:48 p.m. and found Honolulu’s Ocean Safety Department (HOSD) already assisting the vessel.

It was reported that two boaters on a 10-foot boat capsized approximately 150 yards offshore of the Waikiki Walls area. HFD personnel paddled out to the boaters while HFD’s Rescue 1 Boat launched from the Ala Wai Boat Ramp. The rescue boat arrived at the boaters location at 5:10 p.m and took over towing operations from HOSD. Once the boaters were safely onboard the rescue boat, the vessel was towed back to the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor arriving at.5:54 p.m.
