On December 19, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 5:45 p.m. and responded to a lost hiker on the Kahana Valley Loop Trail in Kaaawa with 5 units staffed with 13 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 5:53 p.m., established command and secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.

It was reported that a male in his 50s became lost and was unable to descend the trail on his own. HFD personnel arrived at the hiker’s location at 6:43 p.m. The hiker was then safely transported via Air 1 to the landing zone at 6:52 p.m.
