On December 21, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 8:31 p.m. and responded to lost hikers on the Waimano Trail in Pearl City with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 8:42 p.m., established command, and prepared to enter the trail on foot. It was later determined that due to the location the hikers would be extracted via Air 1.

It was reported that four hikers in their 20s became lost and were unable to descend the trail on their own. HFD personnel arrived at the hiker’s location at 9:19 p.m. The hikers were then safely transported via Air 1 at 9:57 p.m.
