INJURED HIKER RESCUED FROM THE MANOA FALLS TRAIL IN MANOA

On December 22, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 12:05 p.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Manoa Falls Trail in Manoa with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 12:12 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot. Other units arrived and secured a landing zone nearby to prepare for a search and rescue operation by air.

It was reported that an 84-year-old male was hiking for about one hour near the falls, sustained an injury to his head, and could not continue on his own. Rescuers were able to locate and arrive at his side at 12:30 p.m. They performed a medical assessment, administered basic life support treatment, and prepared him for extraction. Air 1 arrived and safely airlifted him to the nearby landing zone where
medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 12:48 p.m.
