On January 1, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:32 p.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Waimano Trail in Pearl City with 5 units staffed with 13 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 4:50 p.m., established command and secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that one female hiker in a party of three suffered an injury and was unable to descend the trail on her own. Air 1 inserted rescue personnel to the hikers’ location at 5:12 p.m., then safely airlifted the injured hiker to the landing zone where medical attention was declined. The two remaining hikers were also airlifted to the landing zone, one by one.
