On January 1, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 11:32 a.m. and responded to a building fire at 702 Palani Avenue in Kapahulu with 10 units staffed with approximately 40 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 11:37 a.m. and found a fire under a single-story residential home.
Fire fighters secured a water supply, commenced an aggressive fire attack and completed a primary and secondary search to confirm no occupants were inside the structure. The fire was reported extinguished at 12:16 p.m.
An Emergency Medical Services unit was dispatched to this incident to conduct a medical assessment on the residents. The American Red Cross was also notified to provide support to the affected residents.
An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause as well as to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
