On January 4, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 2:38 p.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Laie Falls Trail in Laie with 6 units staffed with 14 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 3:04 p.m. and secured a landing zone nearby to prepare for a search and rescue
operation by air.
It was reported that a 21-year-old male was hiking near the fourth waterfall, sustained injuries, and could not continue on his own. Rescuers were able to locate and arrive at his side at 3:48 p.m. They performed a medical assessment, administered basic life support treatment, and prepared him for extraction. Air 1
arrived and safely airlifted him to the nearby landing zone where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 4:00 p.m. The other four hikers in the group were also airlifted individually to the landing zone. The last hiker arrived safely at 5:34 p.m.
