On January 8, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 11:08 a.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Diamond Head Crater Trail in Kahala with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 11:15 a.m. A landing zone was secured nearby to prepare for a search and rescue operation by air.
It was reported that a 57-year-old female was hiking and fell ill, and could not continue on her own. Rescuers were able to locate her and arrive at her side at 11:29 a.m. They performed a medical assessment, administered basic life support treatment, and prepared her for extraction. Air 1 arrived and safely airlifted her to the nearby landing zone where medical care was transferred to the Emergency
Medical Services at 11:44 a.m. The other two hikers in the group walked out on their own. The last hiker arrived safely at 12:22 p.m.
