HIKER RESCUED FROM THE KOKO HEAD CRATER TRAIL IN HAWAII KAI

On January 25, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 3:45 p.m. and responded to a hiker in distress on the Koko Head Crater Trail in Hawaii Kai with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 3:56 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot. The second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone in preparation for air operations.

It was reported that a 59-year-old male, experienced a medical emergency and was unable to descend the trail on his own. HFD personnel arrived to the hiker’s location at 4:12 p.m. where they conducted a medical assessment and performed basic life support treatment. The hiker was, then, safely airlifted to the landing zone where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 4:42 p.m.
