RESIDENTIAL BUILDING FIRE IN WAIKĪKĪ

On February 15, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:56 p.m. and responded to a building fire at 1720 Ala Moana Boulevard in Waikīkī with 13 units staffed with 52 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 5:02 p.m. and found a working fire on the 16th floor of a 17-story residential high-rise building.

Fire fighters secured a water supply and prepared for a fire attack on the 16th floor unit. An off-duty fire fighter resident of the building grabbed the building house line and initiated a fire attack on the involved unit. When fire crews arrived on the fire floor at 5:07 p.m., the fire was declared under control and fully extinguished at 5:09 p.m. A search of the structure was completed and confirmed no occupants were inside the involved unit. HFD crews were investigating for fire extension in adjacent units.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause as well as to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
