On February 22, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 5:38 p.m. and responded to hikers in distress on the Puꞌu ꞌŌhulehule Trail in Waiahole with 5 units staffed with 14 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 5:51 p.m. and secured a nearby landing zone in preparation for air operations.
It was reported that two hikers were in a precarious location and unable to safely descend the trail on their own. Air 1 inserted HFD personnel at the hikers’ location where they conducted a medical assessment and confirmed both hikers were uninjured. The hikers were, then, safely airlifted to the landing zone where medical care was declined.
