HIKER RESCUED FROM THE PUꞌU MANAMANA TRAIL IN KAꞌAꞌAWA

On February 22, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 7:31 p.m. and responded to a hiker in distress on the Puꞌu Manamana Trail in Kaꞌaꞌawa with 5 units staffed with 14 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 7:35 p.m. and secured a nearby landing zone in preparation for air operations.

It was reported that an uninjured male hiker in his 50s was in a precarious location and unable to safely descend the trail on his own. The hiker was found but, due to his location, the HFD determined that it was unsafe to extract the hiker via Air 1. The rescue operation will resume at first light. The hiker confirmed he was well-prepared with enough water and sustenance to spend the night in the mountains.
