On February 27, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 9:28 a.m. and responded to a building fire at 89-245 Kawao Avenue in Nānākuli with 12 units staffed with 37 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 9:32 a.m. to find a single-story residence and vehicle at the exterior of the residence fully involved in flames.
Fire fighters secured a water supply, commenced an aggressive fire attack and completed a search of half of the residence to confirm no occupants were inside. The other half of the residence was deemed structurally unstable and unsafe to enter. The homeowners also confirmed that no occupants were inside of the residence. The fire was brought under control at 9:51 a.m. and extinguished at 10:32 a.m.
The HFD contacted the American Red Cross to assist the five displaced residents and all HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries reported. An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause as well as to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
