BOAT FIRE EXTINGUISHED AT BOAT HARBOR IN WAIANAE

On February 28, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:03 p.m. and responded to a boat on fire, docked at the Waianae Boat Harbor, with 9 units staffed with 28 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 10:08 p.m. to find fire coming from the rear of a 35-foot boat.

Bystanders used a hose from the dock and a fire extinguisher to knock down the fire before fire fighters arrived. HFD de-energized, ventilated, and overhauled the boat until it was completely extinguished. While completing a search to confirm no passengers were still on the vessel, two dogs were found unresponsive. HFD personnel performed CPR on one dog and rescue breathing on the other. One dog was unable to recover from its injuries, while the other was returned safely to their family. The fire was brought under control at 10:10 p.m. and fully extinguished at 10:40 p.m.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause as well as to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
