On March 1, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 12:42 p.m. and responded to a hiker in distress on the Nākoa Trail in Kahana Valley with 5 units staffed with 14 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 1:11 p.m. and secured a nearby landing zone in preparation for air operations.
It was reported that a female hiker in her 30s became ill and was unable to safely descend the trail on her own. Air 1 inserted HFD personnel at the hikers’ location then safely airlifted her to the nearby landing zone where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 1:50 p.m.
