On March 3, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 2:18 p.m. and responded to a hiker in distress on the Koko Crater Trail in Hawaiꞌi Kai with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 2:28 p.m. and proceeded up the trail on foot.
It was reported that a male hiker in his 20s became ill and was unable to safely descend the trail on his own. HFD personnel on foot arrived at the hikers’ location near the top of the trail at 2:46 p.m. and conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support. The hiker was then safely airlifted to the nearby landing zone where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 3:25 p.m.
