On March 6, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 12:07 p.m. and responded to a hiker in distress off of the Puꞌu Manamana Trail in Kaꞌaꞌawa with 5 units staffed with 14 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 12:13 p.m. and secured a landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that three hikers were lost and unable to safely find their way back to the trail. Air 1 inserted HFD personnel at the hikers’ location near the top of the trail at 12:48 p.m., conducted a medical assessment and confirmed the hikers were uninjured. The hikers were then safely airlifted, one by one, to the landing zone where medical care was declined.
