On March 9, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 12:34 p.m. and responded to a hiker on the Kuli‘ou‘ou Trail in ‘Āina Haina with 6 units staffed by 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 12:45 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot to begin the ground search. Additional units secured a landing zone at Kuli‘ou‘ou District Park in preparation for air operations.
It was reported that a male in his 50s had been hiking for approximately 50 minutes when he suffered an injury and was unable to descend the trail on his own. HFD personnel arrived at the hiker’s location at 1:19 p.m., where they conducted a medical assessment and performed basic life support treatment. The hiker was then safely airlifted to the landing zone, where medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 1:48 p.m.
