On March 19, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 5:55 a.m. and responded to a building fire near 1128 Banyan Street, with 10 units staffed with 38 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 6:02 a.m. to find a black smoke coming from the rear of a two-story residential home.
Fire fighters secured a water supply, commenced an aggressive fire attack and completed a search to confirm no occupants were inside the structure. The fire was brought under control at 6:21 a.m. and fully extinguished at 6:50 a.m.
A second structure to the rear of the main fire structure was also impacted and an additional 7 units staffed with 26 personnel were dispatched to that location, at 815 North Vineyard Boulevard.
Fire fighters secured a water supply and commenced an aggressive fire attack to control the fire and create more tenable conditions for an interior search. The next arriving unit was assigned to investigate whether the fire extended to the second floor unit above the main fire unit. A second fire was located and quickly extinguished. As additional units arrived, they searched the remainder of the building for both fire and occupants. The fire was brought under control at 6:45 a.m. and fully extinguished at 7:15 a.m.
An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause as well as to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
