On March 26, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 3:06 p.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Ka`au Crater Loop Trail in Palolo with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 3:14 p.m. and proceeded to the patient’s location near the first waterfall.
It was reported that a female hiker sustained a lower leg injury while at the waterfall and was unable to descend the trail on her own. HFD personnel conducted a medical assessment and prepared the patient to be air lifted via Air 1. HFD personnel safely airlifted the hiker to Palolo Valley District Park where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 4:17 p.m.
