On March 26, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 12:24 a.m. and responded to a building fire near 1218 17th Avenue in Kaimuki with 10 units staffed with 42 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 12:29 p.m. to find a small two-story multi-unit residential structure with working fire and heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the unit.
Fire fighters secured a water supply and initiated an offensive fire attack to protect adjacent exposures and get fire control of the main fire occupancy. A primary search of the main fire structure was completed and a patient in critical condition was found on the second floor. The patient was quickly extricated by HFD, and medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at 12:44 a.m. for further treatment and transport to the hospital. Another bystander at the scene was treated and transported by EMS as well. The fire was brought under control at 12:50 a.m. and fully extinguished at 1:10 a.m. The American Red Cross was contacted to provide services for six adults and two infants.
The fire is under investigation to determine the origin and cause as well as to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
