UPDATE: The Honolulu Fire Department Investigator has classified the cause of the fire that occurred on March 23, 2025, at 87-1460 Akowai Road in Nanakuli, as accidental. The fire occurred at a single-story, single-family residential structure in poor structural condition. The fire originated in the attic space of the home due to embers from the improper disposal of smoking materials, smoldering, and then igniting combustible materials. The occupants were notified of the fire by neighbors who observed smoke emanating from the attic vents and called 911. The damage estimate for the incident address is $140,000 to the building and its contents.
