On April 5, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 8:40 p.m. and responded to a hiker on the Lulumahu Falls Trail in Nu‘uanu with five units staffed by 13 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 8:50 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot to begin the ground search. The second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for a search by air.
It was reported that a male in his 20s became separated from his party and was last seen approximately two hours prior, while they were descending from the falls. The missing hiker’s phone is not responding, and attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful.
Search operations were suspended at 11:27 p.m. and the HFD plans to resume the search tomorrow at first light.
