On April 7, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 1:14 p.m. for a hiker in distress on the Piliwale Ridge Trail in Kailua and responded with 5 units staffed with 13 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 1:33 p.m. and secured a landing zone for air operations.
It was reported that a female hiker in her 20s was near the summit, in a precarious location, and unable to descend the trail on her own. Air 1 inserted rescue personnel to the hiker’s location where they conducted a medical assessment to confirm the hiker was uninjured. The hiker was then airlifted to the landing zone where medical care was declined at 2:07 p.m.
